The Internet
A Web site is data that is stored on a WWW server and which can be freely accessed by people 'surfing the Net'. For instance Microsoft have their own Web site from which you can download information and software. This website www.3333.me.uk has a 'contact form' from which you can upload information. You have to know the address of the Web site; in much the same way as if you want to phone someone you have to know his or her phone number. The address of a Web site is given by something called its URL (Uniform Resource Locator). The structure of the URL is very precise: such as www.3333.me.uk or www.microsoft.com - http://www.3333.me.uk is the actual URL but the browsers below no longer need http:// as it goes in automatically - in many cases the www. will not have to be typed in as webservers will recognise a number of site formats.
