Mod 7 Web and Email Step 1
Getting Started Using Internet Explorer
Internet-First steps:
First you need to connect to the internet,so you`ll need a computer and modem. The modem enables communiction to the internet via a phone line, although faster speed connections are available too, using cable modems. In larger organisations a connection is made using a local area network. You will need an internet account with an Internet Service Provider, which provides connection to the internet via the phone line or cable.A web browser is also required, such as Internet Explorer featured here.

This accesses the web pages you request and displays them on your monitor. The worldwide web(WWW) then is the huge number of websites made available for viewing using your comuter, modem and web browser.
Email & Newsgroups:
Most internet service providers(ISP`s) provide
an email facility, allowing messages to be sent to anyone in the world
who also has an email address.Alternatively, some web-sites offer an
email account for free(such as www.yahoo.com or www.msn.com).
Newsgroups can also be found on the internet allowing discussions on certain topics.
FTP & HTTP:
FTP(file transfer prorocol) is a way of transfering files to and from
the internet. The web browser can do this(automatically for instance
when you click a download link on a web page),or a specialist ftp program.
HTTP is simply the name of the mechanism that is used to transfer information from a WWW site.
